Rewinds & repairs
Payment is upon completion, via invoice.
There are no exceptions!
If we can “save” the pickup easily without rewind - $80 plus materials & shipping.
Example of a save – carry out repairs and show continuity (without coil rewind).
Rewinds - $100 the first coil (single coils, Tele, Strat etc) plus materials and shipping.
Humbuckers - $175 plus materials and shipping.
Complex rebuilds for oddball pickups (removal of old adhesives, bobbin repair etc) $220
Every pickup is inspected for open or short circuits, we check the magnets for charge, and we make sure any pickup we repair will give years of trouble-free operation.
Rewind FAQs
Q: “I have a dead obsolete Maxon/MIJ/Hofner/Teisco/Harmony/Steel guitar pickup, can you rewind it?
A: More than likely, yes!
Q: I have a dead pre-1980 humbucker, can you rewind it?
A: For sure!
Q: “I have a dead (common DMZ/SD - 2nd hand value $100) pickup, can you rewind it?”
A: No. If you have a dead pickup that is still in production, please contact the supplier directly for repairs or replacement. In most cases it will be easier and cheaper to replace it.
Q: “I have a bunch of parts left from a dead pickup, can you rebuild to achieve a specific sound for me?” Or “I have a cheap pickup, can you swap the magnet and wind to X DC reading?”
A: No. We do not “rewind” to a new sound or spec, we return your pickup to stock specs. We may be able to go a little hotter, that's all.
A rewind/rebuild involves first disassembly and repair before we can then get to the rewind. Rewinds require research, peeling back the coil, calculating specs etc. A rewind takes twice as long as building a new pickup. Sometimes we find stripped or incompatible threads, rusted out/broken magnets, bobbins that are split or cracked (bobbins need to spin true at 1000 rpm and not fly to pieces) If you’re looking to save a few bucks by reusing some parts, it’s more time-consuming and expensive to do, because we must deal with all the problems that your parts may have vs using parts we have in stock. Sometimes we need to make new bobbins. This will incur and extra charge.
