Something big happened to Aussie music in the late 1970s. With the arrival of larger PA systems, amps and the first hotted-up aftermarket guitar pickups, Aussie Pub Rock gained a new hard edged sound.

JJ's Guitar Pickups APR-1 (Aussie Pub Rock) Humbucker set are our take on that sound. We've had many requests for more power, so we tweaked our traditional Sovereign Humbucker recipe and produced a powerful, calibrated set. For the first time in our Humbuckers we've used Alnico 4 for some solid, chunky bass, rich mids and sweet treble. We wound offset coils with Plain Enamel wire for a classy PAF sound with a woody pick attack. The neck pickup is open and clear for singing solos, it's never boomy. The bridge is a raucous riffing pickup with power to chug riffs all night long. Treble and clarity are always retained, as you've come to expect from JJ's Guitar Pickups.

Pile on the gain to taste and these pickups will cut through on any stage while they remain clear and responsive.

Sovereign Humbucking Guitar Pickups.

Beautifully warm, jazzy sound when clean. A great gainy sound when pushed, all whilst retaining transparency, touch-sensitivity and dynamics. These are wound to low/medium output, they will never sound raucous or thin. In terms of output they're just right, like the originals were.

Our Sovereign Humbuckers come in two flavours and output levels: '57, Alnico II for softer treble and rich mids or '59, Alnico V, for that true '59 sound, with clarity and bite that's never shrill.

Sovereign Humbuckers are not wax potted, but we can do that if you prefer.

T-Top

Most of 1970s rock n roll owes its sound to this pickup in one way or another. After rewinding original versions we were able to reproduce it in fine detail. Bridge and neck are identical. Alnico 5, polysol wire, nickel baseplate, butyrate bobbins, 1018 steel poles, same number of turns and turns per layer, same everything!

These beauties rawk like Ronson, cut like Angus and generally rock out with bite. Not shrill, but plenty of cut. They're articulate and versatile too.
